The Pain of another failed playoff series still lingers, but the Mavericks have been moving on and have enjoyed some well deserved rest after another long NLL season. “It has been great for the players to get away from basketball, and enjoy time with their families. The Mavericks front office though has been working hard behind the scenes in preparation of another season.” Smokey said.

With not much happening on the news front for the Mavericks lately, we look back at what was a great draft day for the Dallas Mavericks considering the rumours floating around that they wanted to trade out of it. “Yeah it was true, we had absolutely no idea of what we wanted to do on draft day until about pick 24 rolled around.” Smokey said. “We actually tried several times through the season to get rid of our picks but we couldn’t really make a clear cut decision on a trade.”

The Mavericks went into the draft with picks 26, 42, 58 and 59 and didn’t have too many real needs in terms of adding depth to any particular position, so a best available was always on the cards. From all accounts picks 22 and 23 rolled around and the Mavericks still didn’t have any clear vision of who they wanted. “Once the Thunder picked up Hernangomez, something just went off in our head that Zubac was our man. So we sat their nervously waiting for our pick and we were absolutely thrilled that we were able to say his name and welcome him to the Mavericks franchise.” Smokey Said

Zubac might not contribute right away for the Mavericks, But the 19 year old is extremely excited about what lies ahead. He will come in a play some ,minutes for the team as he sits behind, and gets to learn off DeAndre Jordan. “I have always looked up too Jordan, I think he is one of the best big centers in the league today.” Zubac said.

The Mavericks were also stoked about picking up a 3 and D guy in Paul Zipser with the 42nd pick overall. “he will come over to the NBA right away and we are excited to teach him and watch him grow over his NLL career.” Smokey said.
