Rookie Ranking

Week 12 - Piston rooks headline the rankings

This class continues to show that there was a lot of depth overall. Some players have succumbed to injury, but others have shined, given the minutes. Expect to see more from these rookies as the season heats up.

THIS WEEK'S ROOKIE RANKING

1. Ben Simmons (Det)
31.46 PER, 31.7 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 10.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG, .597 FG% in 3 games

2. Lauri Markkanen (Orl)
21.61 PER, 17.2 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.2 BPG, .493 FG% in 5 games

3. Kyle Kuzma (Bos)
18.11 PER, 16.8 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 2.8 APG, 2.3 SPG, 0.3 BPG, .390 FG% in 4 games

4. Edrice Adebayo (Det)
14.09 PER, 12.0 PPG, 11.7 RPG, 0.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, 0.3 BPG, .484 FG% in 3 games

5. Tyler Dorsey (NO)
14.47 PER, 12.3 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 9.0 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.0 BPG, .429 FG% in 4 games

1. Ben Simmons, PG, Det

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
23.45 35.1 22.1 6.6 8.6 1.5 0.7 .488 .035 .634

Last Week: 3

This guy is running away with the ROTY. Initially, it seemed like Tatum and Ball were going to be more competition, but Ben has shown why he was the #1 overall pick.

2. Jayson Tatum, SF, Mem

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
18.75 34.3 18.5 4.3 4.1 1.0 0.3 .451 .415 .858

Last Week: 2

Tatum's stellar play has seemingly been overshadowed by the play of another young Grizz, but that doesn't mean this guy hasn't been awesome! He's currently #2 in the NLL rookie rankings, but is still nipping at Simmon's heels.

3. Lauri Markkanen, PF, Orl

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
19.59 30.7 14.9 8.3 1.4 1.1 0.6 .502 .398 .890

Last Week: 4

His emergence came unexpectedly to all but Javi. His great play has kept Orlando relevant, but now an injury sidelines him, and this will hurt his ability to keep up with the best of the rookies this year.

4. Kyle Kuzma, PF, Bos

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
17.14 31.3 14.1 5.1 2.3 1.0 0.2 .451 .326 .789

Last Week: 5

Kyle played well for Miami, but now with a star like KD pulling the defense towards him, Kuzma has shown just how good he can be. Boston is enjoying how well Kuzma fit into the lineup and has produced.

5. Dennis Smith, PG, LAC

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
21.85 20.4 13.3 1.7 4.4 0.7 0.1 .404 .343 .758

Last Week: 7

Maybe the Russell injury is a good thing because we get to see more of this electric player? Andrew has been touting this guy since prior to the draft for anyone who would listen and Dennis Smith has not let him down.

6. Lonzo Ball, PG, Dal

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
17.35 31.0 14.3 3.3 8.6 1.4 0.2 .423 .367 .671

Last Week: 6

Injuries see Zo fall further down the rankings. There's still no timetable for him to return, but with all these missed games, the ROTY is pretty much out of reach now.

7. Josh Jackson, SG, Det

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
14.48 26.0 10.6 3.3 2.0 1.0 0.2 .429 .295 .583

Last Week: -

Another player that has flourished since being traded, Josh has doubled him point and rebounds per night since joining the Pistons. Laddas points to the NBA Poll that had many believing Jackson was the best overall player from this year's pool.

8. Milos Teodosic, PG, Cle

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
15.89 29.7 10.5 2.8 6.6 1.9 0.2 .560 .492 .938

Last Week: 8

Gotta say, with all the hype surrounding Milos, I expected more. He's got a great starting unit to work with, but he isn't passing as well as I would expect from a seasoned Euro PG. If he could be more of a facilitator, the Cavs would be even tougher.

9. Edrice Adebayo, C, Det

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
15.36 26.1 8.9 9.1 1.0 0.9 0.4 .595 .000 .651

Last Week: -

And yet a 3rd Piston on the list this week. Edrice is showing great promise as the Pistons' center of the future. He's another player that has doubled his scoring and rebounding since being traded from Dallas.

10. Dakari Johnson, C, Bos

PER MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% 3P% FT%
22.79 20.6 11.1 8.7 1.5 0.6 0.7 .620 .000 .658

Last Week: -

Glitch rookie Dakari has seen his play regress over the last few weeks, contributing to his continual slide down the rankings. He has rebounded much better in Boston, but his PPG has dropped drastically.
