ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 10

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Ben Simmons

PER 31.97

MVP

-
He is playing like a man that knows the NLL already and his entire team flows or ebbs on his performances, and no other rookies can say that. Not to mention he is improving every single month he has played thus far; averaging a crazy 27/7/9 in January. Rookie of the Year and All Star? There is no logical reason he shouldn't win other than if you want to throw team success in as criteria; the Pistons are third last in the entire NLL.

Malik Monk

PER 11.43

MVP

-
He had a great week for his standards, putting up about 13 points and 3 assists per game. The Pacers have a bit more enthusiasm about them know and maybe they are about to turn a corner. Not sure why Monk is sitting this high, he hasn't made many blips on the radar this season. Hopefully he can find a role with the Pacers going forward and show more consistency. If he can do that, he can get some real attention on the charts.

This guy was being dumped all over during the draft but Javi has had the last laugh, and I would argue Lauri's ceiling is as high as any of the rookies from this current draft. A bit like Porzingis, he didn't show much during the summer league and off-season, but boy did he show up to play when the games mattered. Week ten saw the big fella put up 20 and 10 in just 29 minutes, on a god-like 61/50/100 shooting split.Because the Magic aren't as good as they were at the start of the season? There aren't any reasons, really. It's probably pretty obvious that I like this guy. He deserves every chance to win the rookie of the week award.

Josh Jackson

PER 14.01

MVP

-
The shackles are off! Buried on a deep and talented Clippers team he has now been added to the 'Detroit untouchables' along with fellow rookie Ben Simmons. Jackson has a lot of physical tools and a great motor, it will just about him finding his comfort in the league with such big minutes and the increased difficulty of his opponents. In a 7 game sample, JJ has shot poorly for the Pistons but has done a bit of everything. He will keep getting every chance to improve.Pistons are one of the poorest performed teams in the NLL, and that has to count for something. He has put up pretty hollow lines thus far, poor efficiency and points is all he has put up (and that's due to volume, not efficiency). Let him marinate for a few more weeks.

Jayson Tatum

PER 36.10

MVP

-
Tatum, aka 'The Mayor of Memphis', is a legitimate chance at taking out the Rookie of the Year award after he has sparked the lowly Memphis team into playoff contention. Jayson (the 'Y' is the answer, not the question) can pretty much do it all already and it will just be about him becoming more acclimatised with the NLL - he put up a scintillating 21.5, 6 and 6 in week ten - the second best line behind Simmons. There isn't much in terms of reasons he shouldn't win - he has been great all season and unlike a team like the Pistons, the Grizzlies are playing winning basketball and Tatum is their best player.
