ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 2

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Ben Simmons

PER 20.68

MVP

-
Big Ben has elevated his game and contributing as if he's been in the league for years. Already a massive early favorite for ROTY he upped his game dropping 18.5 PPG and getting it done on the defensive end with 1.8 blocks and a steal a game.the numbers may be skewed but his -9 for the Pistons while on the court, as the primary ball handler and the offense running through him he needs to be better. Which is hard to expect even from a youngster even with his skill set.

Kyle Kuzma

MVP

-
KUUUUUUUZZ!! The Heat picked up Kuzma with the Kings pick they acquired in a previous deal which has turned out to be money. The Heat don't have much of an option other then to start him at SF so he'll get every chance available and more than enough minutes to showcase his skill. He's showing an all rounded game and has proven he can score from all over the court.Toted as an elite shooter coming out of college so far Kuzma has struggled shooting from three and will need to address this to prove himself going forward.

Justin Jackson

Atlanta are floating around where they should be and offers the best situation for a rookie like Jackson to showcase his skill set. Already trusted to suit up as starting SF for the Hawks he has impressed not just with his ability to score and rebound but at how mature his game is with being super efficient as well shooting 58% from the field and 54% from 3.It's to be expected but while on the floor Jackson is -9.5 for his squad but besides that you can't really fault him as he seems to be a great fit on this young rebuilding roster.

Indiana are rolling after struggling to start the season showing a lot of trust in Monk now as a starter. He's numbers off the bench are solid for a young gunner who will be providing offensive spark in the second unit. He's efficiency so far is understandably poor as the biggest are to improve as Monk adjusts to the pace of the game and finds his spots.

There my be a change in the Pacific division ranks this year and Clippers look to be the goods. DMJ seems to be the perfect back up PG and has a chance to really run his own offense in the second unit. Providing 12 PPG, 4.3 assists and a steal in limited minutes is golden. He'd be even more polarizing if he could hit a shot... 34% from the field and 17% from three is poor and can be his sole focus going forward to elevate his game.

Another great Memphis youngster who is benefiting from the unfortunate injury to starting PG Exum. He shows a lot of defensive promise with his length and IQ and has come along as a play maker with 4 helpers a game in limited minutes. Still so Raw but everything seems to be coming together. So far hasn't been able to convert on the easiest points in the game being the free throw line. Mechanically his shot looks fine but it may be more him being able to find his spots for his 3 ball to start going down.

The Grizzlies are playing .500 ball and Tatum along with Simmons is emerging as a favorite for ROTY honors. Piling in 14.8 PPG, 5 RPG and 4 assists this kid is doing it all scoring efficiently. He's offensive game is already so sound and has been more then serviceable on the defensive end.Trying to find flaws in this kids game is hard but it could be said that he's stellar play really isn't helping the team win games as he is -2.0 while on the court.
