PLAYER OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 1

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Stephen Curry

PER 41.55

MVP

-
Curry continued his superb pre season form with 31 points per game, 6 threes made per game, on 55% and 51% shooting. This is good for 2nd in the league. And most impressively he seemed to be able to shake of a supposed guard unfriendly engine. All while leading the Bulls to a rock solid 3-1 start to the season.Perhaps his shooting ability is just unfair, perhaps his GM talks about him way too much, and everyone is sick of hearing his name. Most likely though, that one loss to the Blazers may cost him in the Eastern Conference who still boast an undefeated team.

Brook Lopez

PER 18.72

MVP

-
Lopez is certainly enjoying being healthy, and also enjoying the new engine, which sees involved bigs living at the free throw line. He averaged 28 points and an impressive, for him at least, 8 rebounds. The efficiency is still there, and the Celtics won 3 of 4 and Lopez was a huge part ranking 5th for points per game.As mentioned, Lopez lived at the line, averaging 11 free throw attempts. This equated to 9 points in freebies per game, seriously padding those scoring numbers. Many people don't like how James Harden is always seemingly looking for contact, perhaps Lopez is doing the same.

Carmelo Anthony

PER 22.46

MVP

-
Another guy who continued on after a great pre season. Carmello still certainly knows how to score, despite a new engine. He showed the league that wings are still relevant, averaging 28 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. The Kings were another team to go 3-1 and he is in the West, which while gaining ground, still appears to have less star power.Melo didnt do a whole lot else other than score, and he took most nights off on defense. The shooting percentages also weren't as good as most others in contention for this award. So the high scoring was more related to the volume of shots.

Anthony Davis

PER 24.85

MVP

-
Now here's a big we expect to dominate, and he did. The defending champs won 3 of 4 games, and Davis averaged 26 points and 9 rebounds as part of the two headed front court monster in San Antonio. He also picked up a couple of assists and did his usual work on the defensive end with 2 steals and 2 blocks per.In a engine apparently built for bigs, with his skill set and athleticism, shouldn't this guy have averaged 40 and 20? He's actually not getting to the line as much as some of his counterparts, perhaps its a power forward thing. As Embiid has center locked down.

Nikola Vucevic

MVP

Ladies and gentleman your club house leader in field goals made. Vuc is certainly filling that cup early going. 32 points per game in week 1 is outstanding, and so was his rebounding with 13 a game. He even played defense for a change, great defense, with 3 steals and 2 blocks. +6.5 in a 2-2 team was also strong work.Did i mention the Lakers only went 2-2. There were better performed teams in week 1, and that has to factor into the decision here. And of course, there is the whole bigman, free throw, possible stigma.
