NLL Insider - Team by Team: Miami Heat

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

The veteran Proid took the gm seat last season everybody knew there would have a lot of trades in Miami. And yes we had at least 13 trades last year, most of them giving away future assets just to maintain their spot in the East Playoffs. They were able to assembly an good starting five with Marc Gasol, Tim Duncan, Rudy Gay, J.R Smith and Rajon Rondo. But Proid is not just trades, he can win games too. (We are not talking Javi, you know). If there is something Proid can do very well is not only trades but strategy to win. As a great coach Proid had watch at least 100 hours videotape of gameplay to get into playoffs and beat the 4th seed Indiana Pacers in the playoffs. His majesty coach ability was able to confuse his counterpart giving 0% chances on how he would play next game. And here we have Miami sweeping the Pacers taking their vengeance from 2014 playoffs.

SEASON LOWLIGHTS

Just after beating the Pacers, Miami fans thought they would have a chance against any big team in the league. They had the Sixers on their way though. Both teams were equal on the paper when you see their starting lineup but Sixers have an amazing depth off the bench. On the series however Miami bigs completely disappeared from the paint letting LMA dominate the game inside. Marc Gasol was ridiculous while Duncan was playing with an oxygen mask the whole time.  Sixers took in in 6 games and Heat finally cooled off leaving the playoffs

BEST TRADE

It is very hard to pick a trade in middle of all these confusing trades mr Proid made last season, and most part of them were really bad. But at least I could find one.

TEAM

ADDED

LOST

Marc Gasol
Zoran Dragic

Kevin Garnett
Enes Kanter

Kevin Garnett
Enes Kanter

Marc Gasol
Zoran Dragic

Marc Gasol was the best player in the deal and he had a big impact on the team. Gasol ended the season with 6 points and 1 rebound more than Kanter. Even on his last year Marc already committed to re-sign with the Heat. Kanter in other hand will probably sign with another team

WORST TRADE

First rounder (Dal) for 2015

Phoenix

CJ Miles
Kosta Koufos
Kemba Walker

Rajon Rondo
Cleanthony Early

Giving away one of the best power forward of the league Randolph, a solid shooter CJ Miles, a solid center Koufos, a future all star Kemba Walker for a old man Tim Duncan and the unpredictiable last year of contract Ranjon Rondo was the worst move mr Proid made. At that time Miami had a nice lift on the standings but looking the roster right now it looks completely destroyed. Rondo might leave and Tim Duncan don’t last 2 years. In two years Kemba will be a All Star (or Superstar) and Randolph will be there too.

OTHER NOTABLE TRADES

TEAM

ADDED

LOST

Ersan Ilyasova
Ishmael Smith
First rounder (Mia) for 2015

Timofey Mozgov
Mike Scott
Second rounder (Mia) for 2015
Second rounder (Utah) for 2015

Mike Dunleavy

Ishmael Smith
Reggie Bullock
First rounder (Mia) for 2015

Gerald Wallace
Reggie Bullock
Second rounder (Mia) for 2015
Second rounder (Utah) for 2015

Ersan Ilyasova

Timofey Mozgov
Mike Scott

Gerald Wallace
Mike Dunleavy

Proid doesn’t care much about the future. It’s all about we now or never. Maybe the second worst trade of the season

TEAM

ADDED

LOST

Chicago

Paul Pierce
Joe Ingles

Hedo Turkoglu
CJ Miles

Miami

Hedo Turkoglu
CJ Miles

Paul Pierce
Joe Ingles

On that time, the aging Paul Pierce was in his last year of contract and Miami got CJ Miles a very good shooter with 3 years in his contract. Unfortunately Miami traded him away

TEAM

ADDED

LOST

JR Smith
Kosta Koufos
Ishmael Smith
First rounder (Mia) for 2015

Hedo Turkoglu
Nate Robinson
Bradley Beal

Hedo Turkoglu
Nate Robinson
Bradley Beal

JR Smith
Kosta Koufos
Ishmael Smith
First rounder (Mia) for 2015

Giving away Beal for Smith was intriguing. Beal is a future all Star but JR Smith is a 2k Superstar it is almost 10 points per game of difference between these players.

BEST FA SIGNING

Mo Williams -  Miami spent only 2 points ro sign their best bench player this season. Mo Williams finished the year with 9 points and 4 assists. In playoffs he had a major impact off the bench with 12 points and 3 assists. Sadly he is going to leave again this year.

WORST FA SIGNING

Paul Pierce – Signed one year 5 million contract and was supposed to start at small forward position. Pierce in the end played only 26 games with 7 points average.

STAR

Rudy Gay – Played another amazing season with 26 points per game leading the team in points per game. Played as SG and PF in few games at the same level. And after 5 years losing games in Detroit and Chicago he finally played a Playoffs. In the Playoffs despite losing first two games because of an injury he kept his game level once again with 27 points and 6 rebounds

SURPRISE

90% of the roster were traded throughout the season we can’t find any surprising player this season

GOAT

Marc Gasol – Started the season with 17 points in Toronto but in Miami however with a new style he played so-so 14 points per game. In the playoffs Gasol disappeared against Joakim Noah and finished the series with only 10 points per game

DRAFT REPORT CARD

Proid loves old people and as part of this Miami first round pick was traded several times. He at least finished with a late second rounder.

Marcus Thornton – A good Shooting Guard but signed with an Australian team and will be a stash for upcoming years…. Also he his rights were already traded.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

Miami will trade a lot before the season start. For now we only have 3 players under contract. The other 12 players including the whole starter team will have to sign another contract this year. Four of these 4 starter will return but Rajon Rondo and Mo Williams will probably leave. Proid has to spend at least 80 points on Rondo to keep him. The question is: Is Rondo worth to spend 80 points?

Also what about the bench? Spending all his points on a unpredictable starting PG would force Miami to play with a ridiculous bench. And with an injury prone starting five a raw bench would cost them a spot in the playoffs

UPCOMING FREE AGENTS

Marc Gasol – Will return but probably will be the first to be traded

Tim Duncan – Returning loyal as ever and Proid will trade him in mid season for some reason too

Rudy Gay – Proid favorite player, will re-sign too

JR Smith – Another Proid favorite. Is committed to re-sign

Rajon Rondo – Proid’s big problem this off season

Mo Williams – 80% of chance to leave

Mike Dunleavy– Have some chance to return

Glen Davis – Is not even playing this season in NBA
