NLL Insider - Team by Team: Milwaukee Bucksby rasho, updated on Tuesday, August 06 2013, 11:14 pm EST 2012-13 Record: 47-35 Season Highlight
Has there really been any season highlights for the Evil empire? They have finished 7th in the tough Eastern conference and gone fishing after the first round of the playoffs against the old and new champs, Cleveland Cavaliers. Is that the season highlight for Bucks? Or is it the fact that with his evil powers GM badwolf again managed to get himself a bunch of draft picks, 4 of them in the first round (some of them were traded to wolf after the draft)? Well at least that gave badwolf a lot of fun in the offseason. Or (just kidding) was it the fact that he tried to sell Jrue the entire season and still managed to keep him until the end? Season Lowlight
Now to the serious part. We are sure that finishing seventh in the conference and not making trough the first round is not making GM badwolf happy. Neither is the fact that they only managed to get two weeks clean with winning all 5 games in week 3 and all 4 in week 11. Bucks even started the season with an 0-4 week against the teams that combined a .415 score at the end of the season. Not something to cheer about. With another year of many newcomers from draft Milwaukee will have a team that has a lot of potential and will probably not live up to them. Maybe it is time for wolf to keep the team together for some years and give it a go for the Championship? Or is he just happy with winning nothing and spinning the team around every year? Best Trade Another busy year behind Milwaukee but we still had a hard job to find out the best and the worst trade that Bucks made. This is how we decided: The Detroit Pistons send Erazem Lorbek, Greg
Stiemsma and Thomas Robinson to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Milwaukee
Bucks send Anderson Varejao, Justin Hamilton and Brian Roberts
to the Detroit Pistons. At the moment of the trade it looked like Detroit got the better part with Varejao, but he went down for the season and we can say that for the 12/13 season Bucks were better off. Robinson was quite nice in the limited time and if Lorbek would come in the NBA he could get a serviceable PF for a few years. Too bad that there is a very big IF in this sentence. Worst Trade Even harder job to decide which trade was the worst? The LA Clippers send Raja Bell and Anderson Varejao to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Milwaukee Bucks send Paul Pierce to the LA Clippers. We basically decided on what comments under the trade was. But is it really bad trade for Bucks? They get a very useful big guy in Varejao and get a nice cut salary wise. But some will say that Bucks could get more for the Truth. So why the f*ck didn't you offer more? Other Notable Trades
The Milwaukee Bucks send Dirk Nowitzki to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Oklahoma City Thunder send Stephen Jackson and Jose Calderon to the Milwaukee Bucks. Bucks sent away both aging superstars and did not get much in return expect a big cut salarywise. If this is the right ting to do, only time will tell but it looks like badwolf knows what he is doing. Best FA Signing
Brian Roberts signs with the Milwaukee Bucks for 2 years and the minimum salary of $ 473,604. Justin Holiday signs with the Milwaukee Bucks for 1 year and the minimum salary of $ 473,604. The jury is still out there in which signing is good or which one is bad, so we'll put them both into the good section and wait untill we see what happens in the future. Worst FA Signing
No other signings were made from Milwaukee Bucks. Star He is the leader of the team on and off the court. He is playing arguably the best basketball of his career though he lost some touch in the assistance column. But he scored 23.8 points per game which is career high and got 4 boards per game which is also a career high. Russell played in all 82 games for Bucks and was always the go to guy in critical moments. He will be the leader for the Bucks in the next few years and a part of the team that will probably never left from Milwaukke. Surprise There really was any true surprises for Bucks. They have a lot of new players every year and no one of them did an extraordinary job that would be worth mentioning. The old players did what they were supposed to. Goat Courtney Lee Courtney's numbers are decreasing every year since his rookie season. Hej ust can not find himself and his playing time is getting cutted. He is also changing the teams every season which is not good for any player that wants to play good basketball and have some fun. We will see how long his stint at Bucks will last because we all know how fast GM wold is on trading players that do not live up to his expectations… Draft Report Card
Bucks get a starting calibre SG in Kentavious if he can live with his expectations. And they are big. With sending away Bradley they managed to get another free spot on their roster for the next season. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is a solid prospect that will get a lot of time in NBA from the get-go, solid all around player, advanced stat darling. He'll start slowly, fighting for minutes with Holiday and Lee, but could be a starting guard down the line if he pans out
An extremely raw propect that could stay in Europe for a year or two and then move to NLL. If he comes to NLL this season he will not see much playing time in NLL, so it is better for him to workout and play in Europe to show himself and then try it in NLL. Badwolf is also happy to have another true Buck in his team. Pick 21 - Steven Adams Adams is supposed to became a future defensive monster by some that know him. But at the moment he is a raw talent that needs some good training. Will he stand up to his talent or will he fall?Pick 23 - Archie Goodwin By GM badwolf's comment the next guy was just a guy that he like. He said that he could be very good in a few years Goodwyn was projected high at the begining, but fell down during the season. Another fail by Bucks or a story of a success? Final comment by badwolf: 'All in all Bucks got way more out of this draft then they hoped for. Who knows, maybe it would be better to not get wishes fulfiled.'
Looking to the Future
Can Bucks hope for some winning times in the future or will they just try to get as much draft picks as possible. Another year when they have a lot of rookies that promise, but will they manage to keep 'em for some time and try to go for what everyone is looking for… to win it. That is the question only wolf knows the answer. Let's hope fans will soon be able to say again: Fear the deer! Upcoming Free Agents
Jrue Holiday – He's been on the trade block entire season, but as it looks now he will not go anywhere. He is already a RFA, so we will see him at least one more season in green. Al-Farouq Aminu – Bucks already extend the qualifying offer for Aminu, but he could still go out and try to see what's out there for him. Smart move? We think he should stay with Bucks where he had a nice season with plenty of playing time. Actually he played 10 more minutes per game more than a season ago. What more can you ask for? Justin Holiday – an FA acquisition will probably leave back to FA to make some space in the Buck 13/14 roster. Greg Stiemsma – another big chance to end up as an FA and even without the club for the start of 13/14 campaign.
