Team by Team: Golden State Warriors
2010-2011 Finish: 32-50
What went bad
Not to be too blunt, but does anyone even care about the Golden State Warriors anymore? Seriously, this team has been without a GM for years. They are never any good. They are definitely one example of the small market NLL team. And the 2010-11 season was another example of an unexceptional year of Warriors basketball.
The preseason began as Kurt Thomas, Luke Ridnour and Stephen Graham all left town. Big men Channing Frye and Joel Anthony both signed contract extensions. And then....that's about it in Warriorville. They may have picked up Willie Green somewhere along the season.
What went worse
The team failed to make the playoffs. In fact, they haven't made the playoffs since 2004.
Looking to the future
Need I repeat that this team needs a GM? They aren't even that bad. Frye and Michael Beasley make up a great frontcourt. The big news is that star Vince Carter will either return on a much cheaper deal or look for employment elsewhere. The team could also use another shooter off the bench. Other than that, they are looking okay from a personnel department. But like their fans, the Warriors are just looking bored.
The excitement may arrive via the draft. In the second slot they took Derrick Williams, the second best player in the draft. They Beasley is very similar, Williams has a much more efficient shot. The selection of Williams could open up Beasley for a trade and make the Warriors relevant again....if they get a GM. It is unknown whether or not second-rounder Chandler Parsons will make the team at this stage.
