2007-2008
Finish: 46-36

What went well

So you can’t ever win your own division? So you almost always a lower-seeded team in the NLL’s Western Conference year-in-year-out? So, what do you do? Well, you bring in a good GM in coltondavis and you win the NLL championship in your first year…that’s what! GM is hardly a flash-in-the-pan GM. He understands perseverance and what it takes to have patience and build a winning team, even without a good mix of chemistry. With virtual nobodies surrounding the likes of Paul Pierce and Zach Randolph, this team showed the “men of will” in the NLL what will was all about. After being upset in the 2006 finals by the Philadelphia 76ers and missing the playoffs entirely in 2007, GM coltondavis laid down the law with his down-trodden team, preached chemistry in favor of drama and the end result was a hoisting of the NLL’s most prized trophy.

The team did not make any moves of significance in the off-season to date save a couple of small trades and signed Francisco Elson. They did, however, re-sign starting Texas A&M PG Acie Law and Sasha Vujacic and drafted bigman JaVale McGee. There is a lot of good buzz surrounding McGee.

What went bad
Being in the NLL champion has no bad baggage. Period.

The Star

Paul Pierce, GF -
Pierce had a monster season even by NLL standards. He averaged 31 PPG, 4 RPG and 4 APG. And his defense came along for the ride. Most say that at 31, Pierce may have lost a step or two, but his shooting touch has only gained from his slower self. He is deadly around the arc and will be in the near future as well.

Zach Randolph, FC-
The second half of the dynamic duo averaged 28 PPG and a little over 8 RPG. He was a dominant force down low to compliment Pierce’s slasher mentality and frontcourt mate Ben Wallace on the boards. At 27, Randolph has many more productive years ahead of him. If he continues on this path, one championship may not be all that’s in store for him

Looking to the future

The Blazers are strapped for cash this year and in the years to come. The window for them repeating or even winning multiple championships is NOW. GM coltondavis knows this, and will most likely do more in his power to keep this team status quo as far as talent is concerned, Either way, this team will be exciting to watch each and every game.
