The Oklahoma City Thunder have put together another strong
performance at home to force a deciding game seven in this Western Conference
semi final series. The Thunder started strong, opening up an eight point lead
after one quarter, and built on that with a strong third quarter showing which
all but put the game to bed. The final score was 109-96.
The Thunder bench really fed off the home crowd, with a
strong +10 and +11 for Mirotic and Fournier. And the starters also did their
job, helping start the first and third quarters strong. The defense was again
setting the tempo, with 12 steals and 3 blocks.
Jimmy Butler and Nikola Jokic were both great with 22 and 20
points. And Draymond Green did a decent job slowing down Carmelo Anthony, who
was playing at the 4. Anthony only managed 22 points from 22 shots.
The Thunder also got 30 assists, with 10 of them coming from
Ricky Rubio.
For the Kings, they rebounded hard, and played decent
defense, but the 12 turnovers were costly, and the bench was outplayed.
Reggie Jackson was inserted into the starting lineup at
shooting guard, but wasn't the spark Klem would have been hoping for, only
managing 13 points.
I'm going to award player of the game to Jonas Valanciunas,
who in just 18 minutes was huge off the bench, with 11 points, 12 rebounds and
a block and a steal.
So now it all comes down to game seven. One team will
advance to the Western Conference Finals to await the Spurs or T-Wolves. The
other will have an entire off-season to consider the what if's. Both GM's will
be throwing everything they have into preparing for this game seven. You would
think the Kings would shift back to what has worked, especially with home
court, and the Thunder will have to try and find some way to silence the crowd
early, and control the tempo of the game. It's been an absolute pleasure
covering this series, best of luck to both teams. I can't wait.
Tune in for the deciding game seven, scheduled for Saturday
night, 6pm NLL time.
