NLL Insider - Spurs @ Wolves (G3&G4)

by dunadan, updated on Wednesday, May 24 2017, 07:22 pm EST

After edging out a close victory in game two, the Spurs were hoping for more of the same as they visited the Wolves for their two-game homestead.

It wasn't supposed to be. In game three their star big man Anthony Davis was hampered by foul trouble and limited to 24 minutes of play before fouling out with 15 and 9. Despite Conley erupting for 27 and 52 points contributed by the bench, it wasnt nearly enough. Without Davis, Lyles struggled to get good looks, shooting 7-19 from the floor.

The Timberwolves, led by Georges 31, poured in a total of 125, with six players in double figures and all 10 players scoring at least 5 points.

Minnesota continued where they left off in game four. After an early Spurs' lead, they pulled ahead by as much as 16 late in the third, only to see San Antonio fight back in it and actually taking a 102-101 lead on a Lyles' three with three minutes to go. But the Wolves responded with a 10-2 run of their own and the Spurs never got any closer than the final margin after that.

Davis and Lyles once again led the Spurs. The Timberwolves got their usual 32 from George and a rare 23-point game from point guard Teague on 7-9 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the line. The bench once again was the deciding factor, delivering those crucial positive +/- numbers.

San Antonio is now facing the embarrassement of elimination on their home-court in game five. They have switched things up again, going with Alan Williams at center for this crucial game. After two losses, some changes had to be made. So why not this.

The Wolves can now take the foot of the gas a little. Even if the drop this one, they can still go home for game six and finish it there, where they are undefeated in the playoffs so far.
