NLL Insider - Central Division- What's Next?

by Andrew, updated on Friday, June 17 2016, 05:50 pm EST

Blue = Possible trade / Free agency candidates

Central

Cleveland Cavaliers

Approx Cap Situation $48,000,000

GM Points: 96

Record: +16

Picks: #57

An all too familiar situation for an NLL heavyweight, 5 Players under lock and key to a princely sum of almost 50 million dollars, once the team owner Lebron suits up for another season at whats expected to be in the 30,000,000 dollar region the Cav’s will have eaten through almost their entire Cap

Key Players Returning:

·        Tony Parker $14,445,313

·        Serge Ibaka $12,250,000

·        Andre Drummond $4,433,682

Terrence Ross, Rodney Stuckey

Unrestricted Free Agents:

LeBron James, Amare Stoudemire, Solomon Hill, Ishmael Smith, Kendrick Perkins, Jordan Hamilton, Lance Stephenson, Thomas Robinson, Andre Miller

Restricted Free Agents:

Damjan Rudez

Rumors:

GM PK is still fairly new to the Cavs hot seat, having taken over from previous enigmatic GM Alejandro. Will Pistol look to put his own mark on this very successful organisation or will the Cavs return in 2017 with an all too familiar line-up?

Targets:

It’s Lebron!! Git err done!! With a very talented starting line-up set to return the ballpark 11 million in cap space most logically will be used to bring back his own free agents thus allowing the Cavs to go comfortably into the luxury tax.

Don’t expect to see Amare, Kendrick back in a Cavs uniform anytime soon

Overview:

Cavs and the term “invincible” is in the past, right now GM PK will be all about adding depth around GM LBJ, having Tony Parker, Serge Ibaka and Andre Drummond as a supporting act would make many GM’s jealous, can PK get the most out of them and get back to the top of the league again?

Possible Line-up

·         PG – Tony Parker

·         SG – FA / Draft / Trade

·         SF – LeBron James

·         PF – Serge Ibaka

·         C – Andre Drummond

·         6th Man – Terrence Ross

Milwaukee Bucks

Approx Cap Situation $78,000,000

GM Points: 99

Record: +11

Picks: #22, #29, #31

Key Players Returning:

·        Russell Westbrook $17,769,374

·        Karl Anthony Town $5,960,160

·        Giannis Antetokounmpo $2,995,421

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon, Kyle O’Quinn, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Cameron Payne, Rashad Vaughn, Marcin Gortat, Tobias Harris, Jusuf Nurkic, Noah Vonleh

Unrestricted Free Agents:

Brandon Rush

Restricted Free Agents:

Nil

Rumors:

Wolf has been shopping Jusuf Nurkic and Marcin Gortat for a while now and unable to agree to term with whats rumoured to be a number of suitors. Will they be dealt this offseason? Rumors are around that a deal is done already to obtain two additional 1st round picks.

No doubt GM Badwolf is scheming ways to get back to the top of the lottery again, however unless he is will to deal Westbrook or KAT I don’t see it happening. Tobias Harris, Jusuf Nurkic and Marcin Gortat are likely done in Milwaukee

Targets:

I’ll go out on a limb and say GM Badwolf will be looking at the top of the draft and drooling with anticipation, currently he owns two later picks. Will he attempt to make his way to the top of order again?

Overview

As long as Russell Westbrook remains on this team long term Milwaukee is a huge threat and fast becoming a powerhouse of emerging stars, Badwolf has a history of going young as a fan of the Bucks I hope that doesn’t spell the end for Russ. Milwaukee made a huge leap last season trading away the teams vets for rookies now will be a step backwards

The only negative for Milwaukee will be in the future and managing all these young contracts coming off the rookie scale deals in the future. Good problem to have right J

Possible Line-up

·         PG – Russell Westbrook

·         SG – Kentavious Caldwell Pope

·         SF – Giannis Antetokounmpo

·         PF – Karl Anthony Towns

·         C – Marcin Gortat

·         6th Man – Zach LaVine

Indiana Pacers

Approx Cap Situation $63,000,000

GM Points: 93

Record: +3

Picks: #52, #56

Key Players Returning:

·        Blake Griffin $20,140,848

·        Goran Dragic $15,891725

·        Tristan Thompson $15,330,435

Steven Adams, Raul Neto, Timothy Hardaway, Vince Carter, Rakeem Christmas

Unrestricted Free Agents:

Jamaal Crawford, Marcus Thornton, Sean Kilpatrick, Greg Smith, DJ Augastin, Matt Barnes.

Restricted Free Agents:

Tariq Black

Rumors

Is Jamaal the priority in Indiana? Will somebody say Indiana? Who will Blake punch in season 2016/17?

Targets

Indiana and GM Sheed are in a pretty good place for season 2016/17 with a majority of his core returning for another crack. Only Jamaal possibly testing free agency he really does need some perimeter shooting at the 2 guard spot. Jamaal should be a priority for the Pacers

Overview:

Is Blake Griffin starting to breakdown with injury? Indiana minus Blake had a really tough time and just barely scrapped into the post season in the final week of play before being swept by the sixers

If Jamaal does pack up and leave it could be tough catching up to the top teams in a very powerful Eastern conference.

Good news for GM Sheed will be the potential cap space available and a boatload of GM points to spend can he get Blake a partner in crime.

Possible Line-up

·         PG – Goran Dragic

·         SG – Draft / FA / Trade

·         SF – Matt Barnes

·         PF – Blake Griffin

·         C – Tristan Thompson

·         6th Man – Jamaal Crawford

Chicago Bulls

Approx Cap Situation $39,000,000

GM Points: 63

Record: -22

Picks: #6, #14, #16, #27, #47

Key Players Returning:

·        Stephen Curry $12,112,359

·        Channing Frye $7,806,971

·        Thabo Sefolosha $3,850,000

Kevon Looney, Jodie Meeks, Tony Allen, Chris McCullough

Unrestricted Free Agents:

Udonis Haslem, Beno Udrih, Marreese Speights, Derrick Williams, Anthony Morrow, Shaun Livingston

Restricted Free Agents:

Meyers Leonard, Seth Curry

Rumors:

Stephen Curry isn’t being traded, but who is? GM Dazman was praying that he could land a top 2 pick this coming draft and take Simmons or Ingram. Not only not getting a top 2 the Bulls were bumped 2 spots from #4 to #6

Targets:

Chicago just needs talented players to place around his all-star point guard. A rim protecting Centre and some willing passers will go a long way to helping.

Overview:

A rough season culminated in a horrible draft result falling from #4 to #6. While a top 2 pick could have been franchise changing as a team “rebuilding” you can’t really scoff at a number #6 selection.

Head down, bum up and the Bulls future will get better soon, getting max value for Steph could fast track that process providing someone is willing to ante up?

Possible Line-up

·         PG – Steph Curry

·         SG – Thabo Sefolosha

·         SF – Tony Allen

·         PF – Channing Frye

·         C – Myers Leonard

·         6th Man – Draft / FA / Trade

Detroit Pistons

Approx Cap Situation $40,000,000

GM Points: 14

Record: -24

Picks: #1, #12, #35

Key Players Returning:

·        Eric Bledsoe $14,000,000

·        Patrick Patterson $6,050,000

·        Tiago Splitter $8,250,000

Joe Ingles, Tony Snell, JaKarr Sampson, Josh McRoberts

Unrestricted Free Agents:

Joakim Noah, Kirk Hinrich, Chase Budinger, Darrell Arthur,

Restricted Free Agents:

Tyler Zeller, Marcelo Huertas, Hollis Thompson, Dewayne Dedmon

Rumours

Is GM Mav still pining for LaMarcus Aldrich does he still have the assets to make it happen, surely the #1 pick is staying in house on a rebuilding team? Rumors around the league saying GM Mav was offered a significant offer for the #1 pick?

Targets:

Perimeter shooting and somehow getting Joakim Noah back at little cost would do wonders. With a negative record and very few GM to spend Mav is going to need some luck. Though I expect another year at the back of field while Mav pins his hopes on another franchise talent in 2017

Overview:

Piston received some lottery luck in 2016 and came away with the all-important #1 pick which is HUGE news with 2 amazing talents to choose from. A Simmons or Ingram will certainly assist in re-righting the pistons future. At present GM Mav has a grand total of 13gm points that combined with a bottom two record rules out any FA of note, if their RFA leave can they keep them from going elsewhere?

A returning Bledsoe and a #1 pick along with a second late lottery pick at #12 and some serious cash to spend. The pistons are definitely headed in the right direction! Watch this space!

Possible Line-up

·         PG – Eric Bledsoe

·         SG – Draft / FA / Trade

·         SF – Ben Simmons / Brandon Ingram

·         PF – Patrick Patterson

·         C – Tiago Splitter

·         6th Man – Draft / FA / Trade

Ladder Predictor 2017

Another tough division Milwaukee had a breakthrough season in 2015/16 expect that to continue on in 2016/17 with team Lebron closely on his heels. Indiana has the team to get over both but a lot relies on Blake being healthy and some stout FA signings. Detroit and Chicago will find it tough to get over the three teams above.

1.      Milwaukee

2.      Cleveland

3.      Indiana

4.      Detroit

5.      Chicago
